Judy Yung's The Adventures of Eddie Fung seems to be pretty interesting. It is about Eddie Fung who was the only Chinese American soldier captured by the Japanese during World War II.

I found the talk on that book by Judy Yung and Eddie Fung on YouTube:

Books I want to read 2008-2009 (Updated)

I just ordered some books at BookCloseout.com. The books are so much cheaper than ordering at Amazon.com, Amazon.ca or Amazon.de, because I pay less for the shipping and also the prices of the books are much lower. BookCloseout sells Bargain Books which means that they are "are new, unread books that the publisher sells-off in volume to reduce excess inventory". The only thing is that they have a narrower collection than Amazon.com has.

I used to order a lot of books from Amazon.ca, when I was in Canada, because they offer free shipping. Although Amazon.com offers international shipping to The Netherlands, I think the shipping costs are pretty high. Per shipping you need to pay 4 US dollars and then another 4 US dollars per book. If a book only costs 10 US dollars, then you need to pay 40% of the price of the book for shipping. I do not think it is worth paying for the shipping and waiting for more than 2 weeks in order to save less than one US dollar on each book.

(閱讀全文)

The Time Traveler's Wife

I finally finished reading Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife. I really like this novel. I could hardly stop reading it. I finished reading it in 3-4 days. If I were reading it non-stop, I think I would have been able to finish it within 2 days though. I finished the last book of the Harry Potter series in 3 days, although the book was as thick as a dictionary! My ex always said that I should not read a book so fast, because it is not worth the money for buying the book and only spending a few days reading it. I do not have the habbit of reading books before I go to sleep. Most of the books I have read were so 'exciting' that I could not wait till the next day to read the next chapter, the next next chapter and so on. It is just like watching your favorite TV series.

The Time Traveler's Wife is an unusual and interesting love story. The main character Henry DeTamble has some kind of genetic disease that forces him to time travel at the most random moments. Every time he time travels, he ends up naked in the past or the future. The future him (40 something years old) meets Clare Abshire, his future wife, when she is six. Clare has known Henry since then, although he does not know of her existence until they 'actually' meet.

(閱讀全文)

Books I want to read - 2008

I bought a lot of books last year, because books are so much cheaper in Canada than back home. I really hated it, when I needed to leave behind a lot of books I bought, because there were just too many of them for me to take them back home. I left behind a lot of travel guides, too! Haha. My ex now has a collection of books he would never touch, such as Lonely Planets and Rough Guides for Vancouver, Toronto, Seattle, New York City, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Haha.

I did take home the books I have not read, except for a few that were not as interesting as I thought they would be. I regretted buying Alissa York's Effigy. The story seemed to be interesting, but I did not like the writing. So I kind of stopped reading it after a few chapters.

(閱讀全文)
